I often come across posts on social media claiming that to be "successful" or to build wealth, you have to start your own business. The narrative is that to live the life you want, you need to be your own boss and make your own rules. While there’s some truth to this idea, it’s important to remember that entrepreneurship isn’t the only way to achieve success or financial freedom.

Success

Success is personal. Each of us defines it differently, and that’s the beauty of it. For me, success is measured by the impact I can make in someone else’s life—whether it’s through financial planning or just being there for someone when they need it. And sure, not everyone might agree with my definition, and that’s okay. What’s important is that you define success on your own terms and stay true to that.

Entrepreneurship, They Said

Being your own boss might sound like the dream—setting your schedule, working as much or as little as you want. But what many don’t mention is that being a small business owner means you’re the heart and soul of the business. Its growth depends entirely on the time, energy, and sacrifices you put into it. Taking a day off? That often just means having to catch up later because the work doesn’t stop, especially in the early years.

Running a business is more than just doing what you love; it’s also about learning to manage the books, staying compliant with laws, and figuring out how to run the operations behind the scenes. It’s fulfilling, but it’s also a grind, requiring long hours, mistakes, and constant learning. It’s not for everyone, and that’s perfectly okay.

Finding Your Path

For some, starting a business is the key to freedom and fulfillment. For others, success might look like thriving in a meaningful career, achieving financial security while prioritizing time with family, or dedicating themselves to a passion or cause they care deeply about.

At the end of the day, success isn’t about following someone else’s roadmap—it’s about creating your own. You can absolutely be successful working a regular 9-5 job, achieving your goals, and building wealth. Success isn’t about the path you take—it’s about the fulfillment, stability, and happiness you create along the way.
